photographs of the best time you had windows smudged by the speed leaving home with our bags from iron street as morning turned into california as smoked trailed from the butt of my cigarette our glass house it throws rocks ..? waking up to the sound of five am take my turn at the wheel climb the shasta oh how the engine aches as the sun tortured california and old alleys tugged deep at the heart of me murals of heroes defacing the blank concrete ?..on old mission street...? locked out as the engine ..? still building regardless of stable ground in this stable ground photographs of the best time you had windows smudged by the speed leaving home with our bags from iron street as morning turned into california |

Actually a Death Cab oldie, this song has been played live since sometime in 1998, and originally had a working title of 'California.' It was recorded in the studio during the 'Facts' sessions, but after missing the cut for the album, a different version was recorded for the Forbidden Love E.P. The "Facts Version" of this song was included on the re-release of "You Can Play These Songs With Chords" The E.P. version of this song can also be found on the Spanish and Australian versions of "Facts." |
