| Blacking Out The Friction | |

I don't mind the weather, I've got scarves and caps and sweaters, I've got long johns under slacks for blustery days. I think that it's brainless to assume that making changes to your window's view will give a new perspective. The hardest part is yet to come. I don't mind restrictions, or if you're blacking out the friction. It's just an escape (it's overrated, anyways). The hardest part is yet to come. When you will cross the country alone. |

| Notes | |
The album version of this song was only performed live a few times. Ben has mentioned that this song is one that he wished he would have recorded differently. Shortly after the album's release and the subsequent tour, the live version of this song took shape. Near the end of the song, Ben adds lyrics from an assortment of songs as a segue out of the song. He has tacked on lyrics of other artists' songs including such artists as Joy Division, The Mountain Goats, The Dismemberment Plan, and Bob Dylan. |
