HOME: Volume V
Benjamin Gibbard | Andrew Kenny
PPR 1005
Released: 20 May 2003

Welcome to Volume V of HOME. This edition brings things full
circle to Volume I (Kind of Like Spitting / Jeff London - July 2000) in
both recording aesthetic and the idea behind the series as a whole

Ben and Ken recorded these songs themselves on 4-tracks, 8-tracks,
and computers in their homes in Seattle, Brooklyn, and Austin.
The "home" theme is interwoven in every song. Ken moved
to Brooklyn from Austin when we first started talking about putting
the split together, and both Ben and (until recently) Ken spend
months on end touring at a time, so the idea of "home" is central to
these songs.

Because of our tri-coastal relationship, a good deal of our three way
correspondence was via the miraculous invention we call "e-mail".
One of my favorite exchanges is from AK on Feb 18...

ben,

ok, so i'll next day this cd to you on tuesday since tomorrow is fdr's
birthday or some such. i know we've been talking about this for
months, but i've only really been working on this for a week or so. i
have my 8-track, but no mixer... weird. i have a borrowed guitar, i
have a borrowed 4-track, but lucky for you (and me probably), i got
viral conjunctivitis on thursday and so i spent the entire weekend at
home alone (macaully caulkin style) working on the ep. i hated
what i had and i did everything from scratch. funny, i've waited six
months to do this and in the end i spent 48 hours on it. this is the
only thing... wait. first off i'm super drunk right now, by myself and
that's really sad... livin' la vida pink eye... but this is the only thing
i've ever done without mark and lee and it feels really weird. so
word. all good. notes to follow...

love always
kj

Both songwriters have offered up what we think are some of the
best songs they've ever written, and Post-Parlo is proud to present
them to you now.

Take care,
Ben & Post-Parlo
